My Teaching Philosophy

Why to learn music?

I believe that every child should have an opportunity to learn music. Learning to play an instrument teaches young people so much more than simply how to make music.

  • It teaches them how to pursue a skill with discipline, patience, passion, and perseverance.
  • It teaches them the life skills of problem-solving, creative thinking, and decision- making needed for any path of life.
  • It teaches them how to apply math, reading, speaking, and singing in a unique and effective way. It allows them to express themselves.
  • It encourages them to respect the abilities of others, as well as their own individual gifts and intelligence.
  • It helps them to develop poise and confidence both on and off stage.
  • It teaches them how to appreciate art, beauty, and purpose in the world.

It is also very satisfying and fun for a student to be able to play for their family, relatives, and friends. The thrill of emotions right before walking on the stage for a piano performance is remarkable.

Methodology

I am passionate about teaching piano to children. I have taught so many different kinds of students throughout my life that I believe I could teach anyone. The youngest student I taught was 3 years old and the oldest (beginner) was 70 years young.

Since every child is unique, it is impossible to teach all of the students using the same method. I adjust my approach and personalize a course of study for each of my students. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. By adapting to each pupil’s needs, I create an effective and positive learning atmosphere.

My goal is to develop every aspect of a student’s piano playing, working on their weaknesses and improving their strengths. Every single one of my students progresses on their own pace and follows their own, unique path. Many factors influence the speed of learning and one of them is the quality and the amount of student’s practice at home. Consistency and dedication are strongly encouraged during my lessons and never go unnoticed.

"Mrs. Savitski is a wonderful person and a teacher. Like no one else, she can explain complex technical problems, motivate to practice, and encourage to put emotions and heart into the music."
